Vocal Singles

I love and admire many different styles of music, as many of you no doubt do as well. These newly released singles represent what some might consider a departure from my "norm" in the church music realm, but for those who've played and sang alongside me over the years these tracks will come as no surprise. Had You Not Stayed Here

Growing up in a bluegrass-steeped environment, I learned to appreciate the "unplugged" acoustic sound and tight vocal harmonies of this truly American music form. Had You Not Stayed Here originally formed in my mind with a driving county music feel, but quickly turned to bluegrass after several trusted friends all came back with the same critique after listening to the demo - "Have you thought about more of a bluegrass feel?" - and sure enough, they were right. This song was born from my thoughts of "what would life have been like" absent Karen, my wife of almost 25 years.

What Can I Do

This song has been coming together for several years now, mainly due to my indecisiveness on how best to produce it. Written after a close friend's divorce, the lyrics are based on his expressions of "what could I have done?" to prevent this from happening, and also his not knowing how to deal with the aftermath. Anyone who's experienced a broken relationship (and who hasn't?) can relate to the song's line "What can I do to make you love me again?".
